  1. We occasionally get a heron in our yard, or the neighbors and seen one flying home to roost, but never seen one stretching its weing this way. very cool capture!

    • Thanks so much for your kind comment! You’re fortunate to see herons so close to your home. They sometimes stretch like this after waking up from a nap, or near a session of preening. I love watching them go through their motions. Thanks for visiting and commenting here.

  2. Great photo of the Heron – I don’t think I have ever seen one quite like that before.

    • Thanks, I’m glad you like this one, and appreciate you commenting here. More often, when they stretch their wings, they extend a leg out to the side and the wing is stretched in alignment with the leg, that is out to the side. In this instance, the heron extended his leg and wing behind his body. I was fortunate to have been sitting in my kayak hidden on the shore in a blind behind the heron.
