Yuck, Ptooie
Sometimes you get the
bear, erm great blue heron,
Sometimes thebear, erm great blue heron gets you.

Great blue heron finds out that dragonflies tickle the tongue.
In posts past, dragonflies have teased the herons mercilessly.
Landing on their bills:

Great blue heron eye-to-eye with dragonfly.
Perching on their heads:

Great blue heron fledgling wondering where he put his glasses, erm dragonfly.
And singing “Nah, nah, na boo boo, you can’t catch me:”

Dragonfly teasing great blue heron.
For the daily prompt, Michelle tasked us to show “a time things came this close to working out…but didn’t.” It didn’t work out so well for the dragonfly in today’s top photo, but he didn’t go down without a fight, and he didn’t go down easily – apparently dragonflies tickle the tongue.
Truth be told, whenever there’s a face off between a heron and a dragonfly, I always root for the dragonfly, but don’t tell the herons, ok?

Glad to hear that, Jane! Thanks for your kind words.
Splendid set if shots – two of my favourite aniamls – herons and dragonflies.
Thankfully the run of very hot days is over (for a while) here.
Cheers – Stewart M – Melbourne
Many thanks, Stewart, I’m glad you like them, and also very happy to hear that the extreme heat there has abated. It must have been quite grueling for people and all loving things there.
Ha! I loved the title then loved the photos even more! Well done!
Many thanks, Phil, glad it gave you a chuckle. Hope I spelled Ptooie right?
Hi. B Great series of shots. Did I see these shots of the Heron and Dragonfly in For using on Wildlife?
Thanks, Margaret! Glad you like them. Say, do you have a link for the place you mentioned, For using on Wildlife? These are all my own original photos and I haven’t given anyone permission to reuse them anywhere. Thanks!
