Macro Monday Magnolia

From Blossoms

There are days we live
as if death were nowhere
in the background; from joy
to joy to joy, from wing to wing,
from blossom to blossom to
impossible blossom, to sweet impossible blossom.

Magnolia Blossoms

Suddenly I realize
That if I stepped out of my body I would break
Into blossom.

The Branch Will Not Break

Magnolias

Magnolias

Yes, I know they’re not herons.

However, the magnolia blossoms in my magnolia photo series were plucked from a branch on the same Sunday walk of the first great blue heron encounter I chronicled here. (Please click here to catch up if you missed that post.)

They say that scent has more power to elicit past memories and emotions than any of our other senses.

The scent of magnolia blossoms transports me back to that day of the heron, just as surely as a photograph would, and I am enraptured all over again.
