Great Blue Heron Peace on Earth 2018 – babsjeheron

“…I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things…”

The Peace of Wild Things by Wendell Berry, excerpt
from The Selected Poems of Wendell Berry

Thanks to Tina for her Lens Artists Weekly Photo Challenge 24: Seasonal. What is more seasonal than a holiday greeting card?.
.

Thanks to Debbie for her Travel with Intent Challenge – One Word Sunday: Christmas Time. Even the Heron gets in the holiday spirit.

.
Thanks to Erica V and WordPress for the recent WPC: Place in the World. My favorite place is where the Herons are, of course it is. And the Herons? Their place is near the water, but also on the gallery walls and my blog. How else can I share them with you?

Thanks also to Ben H and WordPress for their WPC Challenge: Liquid. The Herons are drawn to water, as am I.

    • Many thanks for your kind comment and New Year’s wishes!. Happy New Year to you and yours. I am enjoying your blog, keep up the good work for 2019. Best, Babsje

  7. Wendell Berry’s poems is one of my favourites too!! I acutally heard it for the first time watching a documentary on Genetically Modified Seeds, crops, and Round up Ready Corn etc. Your Christmas Heron is a hoot…oh wait…that an owl…its a Kraak not a hoot??? LOL!

    • Love your comment, yes not a Hoot BUT i have Great Horned Owls who serenade me from outsidy bedroom window at sunset, 11ish pm, 2 and 3 and 4 and 5ish am. Wait at 5 it’s the Wild Turkeys. So your right about the Kraaak or Frawnk calls. Wendell Berry is a treasure. Just today I waa reading in Bill McKibben’s “Coming Home” about the friendship between Berry and Edward Abbey. They are such different spirits with such different styles and yet they bonded over their mutual love of the wilderness. Berry delivered one of the eulogies at Abbey’s funeral with a poem written for the occasion that was very moving IMO. Good to see more of your art! Best, Babsje
