About today’s post: Today’s post is prompted by I.J.’s Bird of the Week, Wordless Wednesday, and the Lens Artists Art in the Park challenge.
.

Because of my near-blindness, I’m not able to link in my posts to the various host sites for WP challenges/tags in the way I have always done in the past, but please know that I value the sense of community here, especially among the Lens Artists, Cee Neuner, Debbie Smyth, Leanne Cole, BeckyB, Denzil, I.J., Restless Jo, Tofino Photography, Dan Antion, Terri Webster Schrandt, Bush Boy, Jez, Fandango, and so many more, who all encourage the entire international network of photographers and writers. Sorry that I cannot link directly at this time – this is the best I can do for now.

My Great Blue Heron photographs were once again on display on the walls of the lobby and theater in a free one-woman show at the Summer Street Gallery, of The Center for Arts in Natick. The Summer Street Gallery provides an opportunity for accomplished visual artists in the region to have their work prominently displayed for TCAN’s diverse and loyal audience. If you’re in the Boston area, please stop by TCAN to see the wonderful gallery displays of artworks by many talented visual artists, as well as excellent live music performances and stage plays. The gallery is open whenever the box office is open, so please check hours here..

Fabulous shot. I would say those skinny legs form the stick 😊
Hi Drexel. Thanks for the clever answer – yes the legs look like sticks. Is it still Milky Way Time for you? And are the clouds behaving themselves?
Great day Babsje. It is definitely Milky Way, but the only milk resembling component in the sky are clouds 🙈. They are not letting up. Now the Saharan dust has taken over fir the last week. Just praying for a break 😊
Oh goodness, Drexel. Wishing you more cooperative skies. Up here, we have smoke drifting down from the wildfires in Canada – nothing as exotic as the Sahara.
You say exotic 🤣🤣🤣
Yes, to me. 😎
I understand 😊. But truthfully, the dust comes across the ocean very thick. Once it’s over the island it just blankets dust on everything. Not great if you’re allergic to dust, etc.
I get it entirely. Extremely allergic to dust, myself, and cocooned indoors because of our air quality alerts this week. And I do feel bad for you there and what it is doing to your Milky Way efforts.
Somehow, silly me, I’d forgotten that birds molt…so I was surprised by the photo.
Hi Lou. Thanks! It surprised me the first time I observed a Heron in molt attempting to land. However do they fly during molt? Awkwardly. Here’s an older post about that: https://babsjeheron.wordpress.com/2013/11/22/great-blue-herons-gorgeous-wings-akimbo-in-molt/
🖤🖤
Thank you, Christine! Marci.
beautiful picture Babsje! It’s funny sometimes how our shots can reveal unseen situations.
Thanks, Wayne! Curiously, the beak only appeared in that one single frame – its not in the immediately preceeding nor immediately following photos I took that day. I didn’t see it at all until I downloaded the images that night. It still makes me giggle!
a one in a thousand shot to be sure!
Great capture!
Thanks so much, Anne. I know you’re a bird lover and thought you’d get a kick out of this one!
😊
Lol. I did not immediately see the beak poking through all those feathers.
And just imagine how many more feathers there would have been if that Heron wasn’t molting? I actually did not see the Heron’s bill peeking through real-time, but noticed it when downloading. It appeared only in that one frame, so it was a very lucky case of right time right place!
Such great timing!
Hi Chrissie. Thanks so much for your kind compliment. So glad you enjoyed this one!
This blue Heron was so amazing. Anita
Many thanks, Anita. So glad you enjoyed this Heron!
Hilarious! What a funny moment! Great work. 🙂
Many thanks! It was so funny looking at the images at the time of download – that protruding bill appeared in only that one single frame. How lucky is that?!
I love it when things like that happen. Probably if you’d seen it, you would have been too late to photograph it.
Yes, you’re 100% correct. I would have missed it with the shutter. But I love those little surprises.
He is so cute.
Thank you! I agree with you that he’s cute.
