Beautiful Great Blue Heron Wishes Peace on Earth (Not Art Nbr 31)
Great Blue Heron Greetings 2021 – babsjeheron
There is not only peacefulness, there is joy. And the joy, less deniable in its evidence than the peacefulness, is the confirmation of it. I sat one summer evening and watched a great blue heron make his descent from the top of the hill into the valley. He came down at a measured deliberate pace, stately as always, like a dignitary going down a stair. And then, at a point I judged to be midway over the river, without at all varying his wingbeat he did a backward turn in the air, a loop-the-loop. It could only have been a gesture of pure exuberance, of joy — a speaking of his sense of the evening, the day’s fulfillment, his descent homeward.

I’ll go one step further and say….good will towards all living things on earth!……mosquitoes are exempt …of course!

they feed bats,birds and other animals diet!
Ok, then we need to wish them well too for the sake of the food chain… But I don’t like it when they consider me a source of their food.
Agreed and It also doesn’t mean we cannot protect ourselves by flattening them!
Yes and there’s the lovely eau de citronella candles, too.
they love CO2,which we breath out. They home in on our CO2 cloud we produce with our respiration.
They use to make a 100% Muskol, but it’s since been discontinued. I’m not sure the strongest Muskol one can get but whatever It is, get that!
Good advice, thanks Wayne. Oddly, I didn’t see any mosquitoes at all this year. Bees, yes, wasps, yes, but no skeeters. In years past getting out on the water required liberal doses of sun block and mosquito repellant. I found a brand that included both in a single spray. It’s a wonder I didn’t glow in the dark!

Wendell Berry is the best. His account of the heron’s joy reminds me of Annie Dillard’s account of her mockingbird. Here’s to a year filled with such occasions!
